Ecstasy, Love, and the Truth of Man
Ecstasy, Love, and the Truth of Man
Introduction
The poetry of Ghani Khan is not merely an arrangement of words; it is an intellectual and spiritual revolution. He was a rebel against rigid traditions. He viewed religion, society, humanity, and love from a completely new perspective.
For him, the true spirit of life was “Masti” (ecstatic passion) — a divine restlessness born from love, truth, and inner fire.
This poem reflects that very philosophy.
Poem with English Translation
Verse 1
English Translation:
What kind of cupbearer is he whose goblet holds empty wine?
That gives no intoxication to the eyes, no redness to the lips?
Explanation:
The “cupbearer” symbolizes a beloved or a spiritual guide.
The “wine” represents love and spiritual ecstasy.
If life lacks passion, color, and intoxication, it becomes meaningless.
Likewise, guidance without inner fire is worthless.
Lesson:
Any action, relationship, or worship without sincerity becomes a hollow ritual. True beauty lies in heartfelt devotion.
Verse 2
English Translation:
What kind of hellfire is that which burns without giving light?
What kind of unbeliever is he who does not celebrate the evening of love?
Explanation:
Fire without heat is not fire.
Love without intensity is not love.
“Kafir” here symbolizes fearless rebellion in love — someone who dares to love passionately.
Lesson:
Half-hearted effort, half-faith, and half-love weaken a person.
Total commitment is the secret of greatness.
Verse 3
English Translation:
What kind of thorny wilderness is that without a rose?
What kind of feast is that without kebabs and roasted meat?
Explanation:
Life is like a garden and a banquet.
Without fragrance and delight, existence becomes colorless.
Lesson:
Life is not only struggle and hardship.
It must also contain beauty, balance, and joy.
Verse 4
English Translation:
Poison, poison, poison is the wine that gives no intoxication.
Blasphemy, blasphemy, blasphemy is the ecstasy that has no restlessness.
Explanation:
This is the central theme of the poem.
True ecstasy is restless. It moves, shakes, and transforms.
If there is no inner storm, life becomes lifeless.
Lesson:
Growth requires movement.
Stillness without purpose is decay.
Verse 5
English Translation:
What kind of man is he who has no restlessness?
What kind of man is he who has neither madness nor a beloved?
Explanation:
A human being is defined by dreams and love.
Without purpose and passion, a person merely exists — he does not live.
Lesson:
Dreams awaken us.
Love keeps us alive.
Verse 6
English Translation:
What kind of river is that without waves and waterfalls?
What kind of believer is he who lacks the ecstasy of a so-called unbeliever?
Explanation:
A river’s greatness lies in its waves.
Faith’s greatness lies in love.
True belief is not dry ritual — it is burning passion.
Lesson:
Religion without love becomes lifeless formality.
Faith must be alive with compassion and intensity.
Verse 7
English Translation:
What is that eye which sees without love?
What is that prayer which has no burning and no music of the soul?
Explanation:
Eyes without love merely see objects.
Prayer without inner fire is only sound.
The essence of life lies in the condition of the heart.
Lesson:
Worship must come from the soul, not just the lips.
Love transforms sight into insight.
Overall Philosophy
This poem is a declaration of:
The heat of life
The intensity of love
The freedom of the human soul
Ghani Khan teaches us:
A colorless life is true death.
Passion and love complete a human being.
Faith is not words — it is a living state of the heart.
Practical Lessons for Us
Find a higher purpose in life.
Do your work with passion.
Worship with sincerity, not as ritual.
Live truthfully without fear.
Consider love a strength, not a weakness.
Conclusion
This poem shakes us awake.
Life is not comfort — it is movement.
Faith is not silence — it is a burning fire of love.
If we have no restlessness, no dreams, no love —
we are only breathing… we are not truly living.
